Planning a lawn treatment season, round by round

Updated October 22, 2026 · For lawn care and turf spray companies

Most lawn programs are a series of rounds: early spring, late spring, summer, fall. Each round has a window when it works best, and every property on the program needs its visit inside that window. Planning the season up front keeps rounds from piling up.

Define your rounds

List the rounds in your program and the window for each. Windows depend on your region, grass types and products. Pre-emergent timing, for example, is often tied to soil temperatures in spring, which vary by area and year. Use local extension service guidance and your product labels.

Spread rounds across the window

If a round has a four-week window and you have 400 properties, plan about 100 a week, grouped by area so trucks don’t cross town. Leave buffer at the end of each window for weather.

Track round progress

  1. Create a dated job per property for the round.
  2. Mark jobs done as crews finish them.
  3. Each week, check how many are left against how much window is left.
  4. Shift crews or add a day if a round is falling behind.

Note what was applied

Keep application records as your state requires: product, rate, date and location. Even where not required for every product, records protect you if a customer asks what was put down.
